This is a very subjective list of websites for arts organizations which I encourage you to explore. Some are organizations I have been involved with over the years, and some are organizations that I think do a great job and want people to know about, and some just have interesting information about music or theatre. Carolina Baroque was organized by Dale Higbee in 1988 for the purpose of performing music of the Baroque period (c. 1600-1750) on instruments familiar to Monteverdi, Purcell, Buxtehude, Vivaldi, Telemann, J. S. Bach, and Handel. The Piedmont Chamber Singers, Inc., was formed in the fall of 1977 and has become interwoven in the fabric of the arts community in Winston-Salem. Their audiences have enjoyed performances of major works such as Handel's Messiah and Bach's St. John Passion and most recently, Bach's Mass in B-Minor. The Bel Canto Company is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation organized to advance the cause and further the enjoyment of choral singing. Bel Canto Company is a professional member of Chorus America The mission of the Winston-Salem Children's Chorus is to establish and promote outstanding children's choral ensembles, bringing together a diverse group of children from across the community, and providing excellent musical training and care of the young voice in an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual commitment. The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem had its beginning at a meeting on October 3, 1935, at Salem Academy with Dorothy Knox presiding. She stated a "need of organized dramatics for Winston-Salem with the aim of building a permanent organization to present the best in Dramatic Art for the citizenry". The Little Theatre provides opportunities for amateur actors, singers, dancers and technicians to learn their craft. Classical Voice of North Carolina (CVNC) is an online performing arts journal based in central North Carolina. They strive to provide comprehensive coverage of classical music, opera, and dance throughout our state and of theatre in the Triangle region. This website features reviews of performances throughout the state and is an excellent source of information about performing arts organizations, performance series and upcoming performances. The Bach Cantatas Website is a great source of information about the music of Musicals 101 bills itself as the cyber encyclopedia of musical theatre, TV and film. It has great information on the history of musicals and is a very entertaining site. |
